Goatscaping

Mother Nature Approved Brush Clearing
If you are here, I imagine it’s because nature’s gone wild in your yard and you feel fed up. Overwhelmed maybe?
We get it! Let our goats help.
Sitting in your yard doesn’t need to be another reminder of your To Do List, an eye sore or wasted space. Maybe the natural overgrown look used to be endearing. But now is out of control and choking out your serenity.
Why Al’s Goats?
It is time for you to reclaim your weekends, because weekends are for making memories not for ripping out pucker brush and weed-whacking who knows what.
- Our goats can get in those tough to reach spots. Like Mr. Peanut who is plucking bittersweet leaves from in between a down tree or the steep slope above where machines cannot go.
- They can eat the things that give us trouble- thorny, itchy, thick and viney, or shrubby, woody things.
- Goats are a natural solution, no chemicals or herbicides, just powerful teeth, a huge appetite and potent digestive abilities. They even grind up the seeds that most animals excrete or spit out. This helps diminish the seed bank.
- They fertilize the soil with their manure and their urine helps to degrade the seeds lying dormant in the ground. This decreases their ability to germinate while giving the native plants a nutrient boost.
- Al’s Goats are inquisitive, playful, sweet, and can lift your spirits. It is really hard to be in a bad mood around all this love. Especially when they are chomping away to make your life easier.
- Our sheep are the mowers– if you have low lying poison ivy or grasses- you want to special request the sheep to be added to your job. They are nose to the ground munching machines.
How Does It Work?
The simplest explanation is that they defoliate the plants robbing them of the ability to draw energy from the sun. The stress this causes the plants weakens them. And it causes them to draw more energy from their root stores.
Most plants during the spring and summer months are focusing all their energy on producing new growth. Even the energy drawn from the sun (photosynthesis) goes directly to new growth. When that process is interrupted, the plant has no choice but to dig deep to get the food it needs. When that energy source is depleted the plant cannot survive.
In the fall or when the plants go to flower that directional energy switches gears. The new growth halts and the nutrients are redirected into the root systems to help the plants hibernate over the winter.
Our goal is to stunt this process and decrease the amount of regrowth. We offer a client centered approach- meaning- we discuss your goals and create a prescription targeted grazing plan to help you restore the harmony in your yard.
